St. Michael’s Church, West Felton

As a Church of England Primary School, one of our strengths is our Christian ethos. At West Felton C.E. Primary School, we seek to develop in children a knowledge and sympathetic understanding of the Christian faith, its teachings and values, and to foster an appreciation of the relevance of the Christian faith to both school life and their own lives. We work hard to provide a quality primary education in a caring Christian setting for all children in our care, so that each child is able to fulfil her/his potential, understand that they are valued, and live happy, purposeful lives.

As a staff team, we are confident in our own faith community, and are inclusive of all children, regardless of faith or creed. Our Christian values underpin all aspects of school life, with mutual respect being a fundamental principle in all our relationships, with children, amongst our own staff team, with outside professionals or parents/carers.

Today we visited the church to celebrate Ash Wednesday – Rev. Burton led a lovely service full of song and prayer. Rev. Burton trained some Y6s to mark their friends with the sign of the cross.

Each class performed a song, poem or prayer at Harvest Festival, September 2016.

Here is Sycamore Class singing their all-time favourite ‘It’s Another Harvest Festival…Cha, Cha, Cha!”

Our Vicars

We have just been joined by Rev. Jassica Castillo-Burley and her husband Roy Castillo-Burley. They lead weekly Worship with joyous songs and stories.

Sarah Burton recently visited Sycamore class to discuss the work of Charles Darwin and his theories of ‘Evolution’ which they were studying in Science. She very kindly offered to answer our probing questions! Sarah though we were ‘very good reflective thinkers.’  See a selection of our reports below…

Our Christian Values

wordle

At West Felton CofE Primary School we are proud to celebrate and promote Christian Values. We chose a theme each half term and this creates the setting for each act of collective worship.

The ‘value’ we are focusing on for Autumn 2018 is Wisdom. Please click for further information:

WISDOM

One of our parents is hoping to start ‘Messy Church’ here in West Felton with the help of Rev Castillo-Burley & her husband Roy.
Messy Church is a new kind of church which is for children and parents and aimed at all ages and all families. … It aims to reach families via a connection to chapel or church; to show who Jesus is to families through craft, fellowship and informal learning.
We are suggesting that we meet once each half term on Sunday afternoon from 4:00—6:00pm. Children and parents would be invited into St. Michael’s church to enjoy craft, stories, music, science activities (STEM) and good company. Food & drinks would be offered.
Our first session will take place on Sunday 16th September at 4:00pm at St. Michael’s Church, West Felton. More de-tails to follow.
